“Shh... Shh...” he said plaintively. “Please, baby. Please don’t cry.” He hummed lightly under his breath, brushing away the tears that slipped out from under her hands. “The buttons on your collar The color of your hair I think I see you everywhere I want to live forever And watch you dancing in the air...”
She took quick breaths, eventually calming down. She still hid her face, wiping away the tears that fell.
He watched her for a moment before pulling her close, where she would be able to feel his heartbeat slow and steady. He kissed her hair as they bobbed along the waves, heading for the ship. “All the lies and make believe The very things that one day leave But I can see you standing in mid air The girl I want to marry Upon the high trapeze The day she fell and hurt her knees“
His voice grew weaker as they neared the ship, but he took a deep breath, his eyes closed. And only time can make you The wind that blows away the leaves
“For everything that life was worth The fallen snow, the virgin birth Yeah I can see her standing in mid air I can see you standing...in....” Jack’s voice got quieter and quieter as they were lifted on the ship, eventually going silent as his arms went limp around her and the familiar pounding of his heart in his chest cavity ceased.
She stood up, her eyes flaming, blazing brighter than the fire from hell. "Help him, damnit! It's you're job!" Her voice was dangerous. "Just help!"
The medic shook her head with a frown, but resumed CPR on Jack, instructing her assistants in low voices.
The medic shook her head after several seconds. “This isn’t...” She sighed as she slid another syringe into Jack. She pressed down on the plunger and Jack twitched before gasping, his eyes flying open.
Avice felt her heart skip a beat, and she knelt down, placing her hand over her own heart, which was racing. "Oh, thank God."
Jack struggled for breath, his face still deadly pale. The medics quickly lifted him on the stretcher and headed for the infirmary.
Avice followed, staying a ways behind. She knew getting in the way again wouldn't help, and decided it was best if she just waited.
One of the medics turned to her as the rest disappeared into the infirmary. “Avice, it’s probably best that you stay out here...”
