"What if I tried to catch a shark and got eaten in the process?"

 

"I'll do my best," he said wryly, his hand tracing small circles on his back. He paused before pursing his lips and speaking in a whisper.

"So... listen. I'm thinking of assembling a team for when we go into the Mage Quarters and... I don't think you should be there."

 

"Avice, it'll be really dangerous. I wouldn't go if I weren't the captain."

 

His brow furrowed and he shook his head slowly.

“I can’t have that happen.”

 

“I’m not. I’m just being protective. This is a really dangerous one, Av. I’m not sure either of us would come out alive.”

 

“No. If I can help it, you’re staying on the ship.”

 

“It’s perfectly fair. I am also your captain, Avice.”

 

“Sure I do. You have a habit of being reckless!”

 

“And I don’t want you to,” he replied sternly. “This isn’t up for negotiation.”

 

“I’m keeping you safe, Avice, something you seem to struggle with.”
