Knox removed the dagger and Jack groaned, falling forward. Knox straightened up and turned to Avice with a warm grin before turning to one of the henchmen. "Could you handle her, please? But don't kill her. I'd like to speak with her afterward."
One of the henchmen holding Jack stepped forward, his black, beady eyes sharp and dangerous. He had a wedding band on his left hand, the one he used to pull out his rapier.
She took a breath, blocking the rapier with the dagger carefully. "Sloppy," she said sharply, moving her leg as she hoped to kick his from under him and get it over with.
The man looked up at her with wide eyes before falling, his hand pressed to his wound. Knox raised an eyebrow before grabbing from Jack from the ground, holding a knife to his throat. "Don't come any closer."
Jack's eyes were cloudy from blood loss and he studied Avice carefully. Knox grinned, tilting his head. "Put down that pretty little sword of yours and come over here."
Her eyes showed she was searching for options, but she finally set down her weapon, and did as he asked, her head dropped.
He beamed cheerfully, trading places with his second henchman, passing him the knife. He stepped over to Avice, placing a finger below her chin and lifting her head. His teeth were clean, straight and white, and his eyes were a warm golden brown. "Lovely. You remind me of a girl I once knew." He smirked and glanced down at Jack. "Tuck here was very familiar with her."
