He gave her a warm smile before turning to the henchman. "Get him to the infirmary, please. I'll be there shortly." He turned back to Avice and put a hand on her back, moving her forward. "Allow me to show you to your room."
He gave her a sly grin before opening the door to a lush, comfortable bedroom. "Sleep well," he replied smoothly.
She looked around frantically, searching for anything that could help with escape, her eyes insistent.
She opened the window and looked out, before shaking her head with a sigh. She tried the door, a bit too hopeful.
Her eyebrows raised, and she looked out nervously. Her steps were cautious, like a deer in the meadow.
Knox's voice floated up, his tone thoughtful. "It is a shame about his heart. He couldn't have held on a bit longer." He sighed, shaking his head. "Typical spoiled Sparks attitude. Aubrey was the same."
"What should we do with the body, sir?" "Put it out back," Knox said idly. "Keep the mages on him. I'll deal with it in a while."
