He was silent, mostly from shock. "What, uh..." He shuddered, pulling away from her. "What did I do?"
His brow furrowed as he tried to fight through her words. "I... I don't understand. Do you just not love me anymore?"
He looked at him, heartbroken. "Jack.. I have never loved anyone more than I love you, but.. I'm sorry."
He watched her with wide eyes. "What did I do?" he asked tremulously. "What did I do? How can I... What can I do to fix it?"
"I don't want to hurt you again," she said softly as they approached the harbor. "I can't do it again."
"But I did," she said, taking his hand, her voice cracking. In her eyes there was fear. "It's just a break.."
She lifted his hand and pointed at the twine. "Don't forget that," she said quietly, kissing the tip of his nose. "A break."
"Why have a break if we know we're going to get back together?" he pleaded. "Please. Please don't leave me. I don't understand."
