He blinked, his head tilted, completely confused at to what she was getting at. “Well, yeah. It is a secret.”
His brow furrowed and he stepped forward, hesitating he felt a stab of pain going through his arm. “I don’t understand what you mean.”
She stepped back, shaking her head. "Is there someone better? Have you found someone better so quick?"
He paused, his brow furrowed as he worked through her words. Finally, his eyes widened. “Wait, what? Avice, you can’t possibly think that I’m cheating on you!”
She took a breath, her mouth set in a frown. "What else would be so important that you leave when I'm asleep and take your ring off?"
Many expressions crossed his face, the most prominent one of hurt. “I would never cheat on you, Avice.”
Her breaths quickened, but she was uncertain if it was anger or sadness. "Then what have you been doing?"
His voice shook as he spoke and he folded his arms to try and contain the darts of pain racing up and down his arms. "Maybe it doesn't, but I hope that the trust we have between each other might."
"Go," he said, glancing up at her. "Go to your room or something." His hands were shaking as he pressed them against the wall behind him.
"Avice, go away. Please," he muttered, gasping with pain as the pain split into his chest, causing him to squeeze his eyes shut. "Please just go away."
He shuddered and knelt down. The instant his knees touched the ground, a blast of air, strong and icy, came from his shaking hands, pushing everything back away from him roughly.
