He followed her up, a little slower than usual but still nimble. When he got to the top, he grinned at her triumphantly. "Made it."
She turned to him thoughtfully. "You go get the water, and I'll grab the painkillers from my room. Does that work?"
He saluted her. "Aye-aye, Captain," he said cheerfully, turning on his heel and heading off in pursuit of water.
She went to her room, frowning slightly as she remembered that he would forget. She picked up the painkillers he had given her and opened the door, pausing before she left. She decided she would paint tonight.
Jack was leaning over the side of the ship, a canteen in his hand. He was reaching for the water below, his brow furrowed.
He jumped, and turned around almost guiltily. He seemed happy to see her, but he was hiding something. "Oh," he said. "Hey."
He hugged her back immediately, relaxing in her arms. It always seemed to be a relief to him, and he kissed the top of her head. "I love you."
