He hesitated before clearing his throat uncomfortably and beginning to sing. "I know exactly where you are. I know exactly what you do."
He stopped singing as she fell asleep, not wanting to disturb her. Instead, he leaned back slowly and lightly kissed her temple.
Her breaths were quiet and soft, and her expression remained peaceful as a lock of hair fell in front of her face. The stillness made any scars a bit more noticeable, some standing out more than the rest, such as one under her eye and across the bridge of her nose.
Her left hand brushed his side, a deep scar on her ring finger that she earned during a game years ago. Her fingers twitched, and her nose scrunched instinctually as his kisses.
His kisses were light and he pulled her closer. "I love you, you know," he told her quietly, hoping not to wake her. "More than anything."
He nodded, satisfied, before closing his eyes and resting his head on top of hers, gradually drifting off to sleep.
Avice awoke quickly, her eyes darting to look at her surroundings nervously before they landed on Jack. It took her a moment, but she relaxed, burying her face in his neck.
Jack was in a deep sleep, his sleeping face revealing a more weary face than expected. His arms tightened around her easily.
