He started, and frowned at her. Turning on his heel, he walked back to his cannon with long loping strides. "Not funny," he said, trying to hide his smile.
"Don't lie to me, Mr. Curnow. Lying is bad. Pirates never lie." She crossed her arms and rested them on top of the cannon nonchalantly.
He squinted at her. "Avice, that's literally all pirates do." He grinned at her cheekily. "Do you actually know what your job is here?"
"Definitely not. I mean, if lying is all we do, then our answers should be opposite from the truth, right?" she asked, sticking her tongue out. "Like opposite day?"
She hopped over to him, and gently pulled his hands away from his ears. "Okay, okay. I'm not sorry," she said, grinning. "Does that work?"
Jack watched her for a moment in surprise before breaking out in a grin. "Works for me," he responded cheerfully.
She stepped away, returning to a different cannon, beginning to clean it. "Good. I wouldn't want to be the cause of any more headaches."
"I appreciate that," he said with a grin, peering inside the cannon. "God knows I have enough of them."
She watched him for a moment in silence, thoughtful of the situation. She opened her mouth to speak, but the words she wanted didn't come out. "Hm."
(I CAN'T DO ANYTHING THAT MAKES HER CONTRADICT ANYTHING IN THE FUTURE SO I GOTTA FIGURE THIS OUT) She hesitated, her brows furrowing. "I can't say. I... Forgot."
(IT'S OKAY THEY'LL JUST HAVE A LOT OF CUTE MOMENTS) He gave her a look, his brows raising. "Okay, weirdo," he said, moving onto the next cannon.
She shook her head, disappointed with her own response. "Not gonna lie, but sometimes I fall asleep down here instead of doing work." She was trying to start a different conversation. "Don't tell anyone, though."
"I don't really have any other friends on here to tell your secret to, Avice," he said, laughing slightly. "Well, except Natalia, who holds your job in her hands."
"Exactly. Don't tell anyone. I'd have to kill you, which I am totally capable of doing without any problems." She grinned. "Apparently you think I can't just because I like you, but you're wrong."
"Aw, Rohesia," he said, shaking his head with a deep chuckle. "I think I know your capabilities better than you do."
"My capabilities of being a cruel and cold murderer, then maybe. I am merciless, Jack. Merciless." (Avice only tells people she likes them when it's subtle.)
