He slid down the tree, taking her with him as he leaned back against the tree trunk. "Do you want to just stay here for now?"
He wrapped the cloak around the two of them, pulling her onto his lap. "That's good to hear. Are you tired? You can sleep while we wait."
"I'm not tired," she said easily, running her hand through his hair, her nose brushing his jaw. "I'm just.. resting."
"Hm. Sounds like you're lying," he teased, closing his eyes at her touch. "Sounds like you are tired."
"You think that," he murmured, opening one eye. "But... I mean... You know. I'm damaged goods, remember?"
"Because I love you," she said. "Nothing would change if I knew bad things had happened to you or not.. I have every reason to settle for you."
He gave a slightly melancholy smile, rubbing her back slightly. "You know that... you don't have to stay with me out of obligation, right? It's your life too. You don't..." He sighed, brushing her hair out of her face.
She pulled back, her look serious. "I am not staying with you out of obligation. I wouldn't do that.. I'm staying with you because.. well, you're my soul mate. I will never find anybody better than you."
Her brows furrowed in realization. "No, no, no, baby. I'm.. I'm settling down. You know? A house, a family.."
