"I..." He yawned, still half asleep, before shuffling towards the door. "...love you too. Stay... safe..."
Jack returned almost an hour later, his hair flattened to his head from the rain, a linen bag in his hand. He was shivering and soaking wet.
Avice blinked, her eyes widening slowly as she saw him. "It's raining? Babe, I'm so sorry! I never would have asked.." She shook her head slowly, standing and moving about to grab him dry clothes. "I'm sorry.."
"D-d-don't w-w-worry," he said, blowing into his hands. He frowned, tilting his head. "D-d-did you s-s-stay up for me?"
She went into the other room to grab a towel, coming back to offer him the dry clothes. "Of course. The oranges," she said, kissing his cheek, "and you."
"Oh..." he said, sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck as he took the clothes gratefully. "I kinda... uhm... I didn't think you'd want wet oranges, so I kept them under my shirt on the ride back."
She watched him for a moment, before wrapping her arms around him lovingly. "God.. I love you. Don't they have peels?"
