“Don’t even try, Av. I’ve had a year working on the word ‘dad’. I have dibs.”
"But she can pretty much say it! It's my turn! I haven't even had the chance to try."
“Are you not respecting the words of dibs?”
"Definitely not."
“Aubrey, say dad. Daaaad.”
She shook her head with a small grin, humming quietly to herself as she worked.
“Dap,” Aubrey said, patting his nose. “Closer,” he said with a nod.
"Is 'Da' her first word or can that not be considered a first word?"
“I have considered it her first word.”
"Has she said anything else?"
“Why would she ever need to say anything else?”
"Very funny."
"I'm serious! 'Dad' is all she needs to know."
"What about 'Mom'?"
"If she needs you, she can call for me."
"That's not fair."
"Sure it is. Aubrey, say 'dad'."
She frowned, but continued to make soup.
She patted his face. "Mam!"
"Ha. She said 'Mam'."
