The town they were wandering through was busy, with people pushing past Mack and avoiding the gaze of the people around them. Jack frowned as they turned down a less crowded street. “This place seems... preoccupied.”
He nodded and had Mack turn down an alleyway. “That it is.” He froze, pulling Mack up short as he recognized the figures at the end of the alleyway. His eyes widened and as the man with blonde hair started towards them followed by his bodyguards, Jack slipped off the horse. “Avice, take Aubrey and go.”
“You have to,” he said harshly as Knox came closer, a warm smile on his face. “Lose them and find a way back home. I’ll meet you there eventually, alright? Go.”
She looked incredibly hesitant but nodded, steering Mack suddenly in the other direction and rushing off.
“Tuck,” he heard Knox say in a chiding tone. “You should have asked her to stay! We were going to have such a lovely time.”
Avice rushed back to the house, checking over her shoulder constantly. She held Aubrey close, staying low.
