"I did it without you," he replied harshly, shifting as well as he could. "You can do it. I know you can."
She shook her head, standing up. She had to stop herself from sobbing, though tears fell down her cheeks. "Come on, now. There has to be a way. You can't just give up."
Knox stood in front of her, handsome as ever, with a charming grin on his face. "Hello, my dear. You look beautiful, as always."
“Mm. I forgot how fierce you are, Ms. Rohesia. Congratulations on the little one, by the way. I hear she looks just like you.”
He extended a hand, giving her a warm smile. "We were worried you weren't going to show up," he said politely. "We were waiting all night."
"Tuck and I," he said cheerfully. He walked closer and kicked Jack's leg, limp from the attack. Jack inhaled sharply from the jolt of pain and Knox grinned down at Avice. "We were waiting for you the entire night."
He raised an eyebrow, tilting his head ever so slightly. "I appreciate your moxie, Avice," he said, a small edge in his voice. "But you won't talk to me like that again."
She watched him, her eyes narrow as she moved towards him. "I said not to touch him. Did you hear me?"
There was a strange expression on his face, and Jack groaned as he tried to reach for her. "Avice, don't..." Knox extended his foot and stepped on Jack's ankle, his eyes never leaving Avice's. Jack cried out and tried to pull away.
