Jack was leaning against the wall, breathing hard as he supported himself on his broken leg. He blinked blearily as the pain swept through him and he swayed before falling back down on the ground, hitting his head hard.
She opened the door, her eyes widening as she saw him. Quickly she set Aubrey down and went to him worriedly. "Jack?"
She muttered under her breath, finding a cloth. She put his head in her lap, gently holding the cloth to the wound as she brushed his hair out of his face.
Up close, she would be able to see how weary his face was. Dark circles mixed with the bruises on his skin and his lips were slightly parted as he slept. There was a smudge of dirt on his forehead and he was still, completely unconscious.
She sighed, watching sadly as she wiped the dirt from his forehead. "Oh, my love.. You're okay.. It's okay."
It took him several minutes to come to, a gradually stirring eventually leading to his drowsy eyes fluttering open. "Avice," he mumbled through dry lips, taking her hand and gazing up at her almost reverently. "You're still here..."
He looked up at her, clearly a little befuddled. "You didn't leave. I thought you were going to take Aubrey and leave."
She sighed worriedly, not letting go of his hand. "I'm going to try and get you back into bed, okay?"
"You know you're... everything to me, right?" he said, looking up at her. "When you were gone, I couldn't function."
