He studied her keenly, his hand reaching up to hold her face gently. "Here's what I know," he said quietly. "My partner is one of the most intimidating people I've ever met. She's ridiculously beautiful. Seriously. Her eyes are like the sky on a cloudless day. Her nose crinkles when she laughs. She's deadly, too. She lights up when she's even slightly close to a cannon, which is both terrifying and exhilarating. She's brave and loyal. She likes fighting, even if there's nothing really to fight for. I remember that when I first met her, she was stabbing a blade through the spaces in her fingers just for the fun of it. She's brilliant, too. We built a house together based on a painting she once made. She's so talented, Avice. It's crazy."
She watched him, her eyes thoughtful and brows furrowed. After a moment, she leaned down to kiss him, her hands trembling ever so slightly. "I love you. I love you more than the world."
"Not good for anything," he murmured, running his hand through her hair. "Are you crazy? Baby, you're everything."
"Avice..." He sighed, looking up at her. "I don't exactly know how to put this. It's painful enough without having you watch me make a fool of myself."
He raised an eyebrow, watching her. "Okay. Go to the wall and stare out the window and say nice things."
