She smirked, crossing her arms before her gaze slid to Aubrey.

“Why does she have a knife?”

 

“Oh? A year is a good age.”

 

“Mm. I am a good starting point. I worry she’d beat me, though. Look at the ruthlessness in her eyes.”

 

“Perhaps.”

 

“I suppose I have no choice.”

 

“She’s going to kill her aunt.”

 

“Unlikely,” she said, drawing her sword.

 

Jack hesitated for the first time, eyeing the blade uncertainly.

“You won’t hurt her, right?”

“Jack.”

“Okay. Just be careful.”

 

Aubrey balanced as Jack set her on the ground, holding the hilt of the knife in her mouth.

“Ammpha.”

 

Natalia studied her carefully before extending her blade.

“Hit it with the knife, Bree.”
