Avice woke up again awhile later, looking around nervously.
Jack was curled up next to her, and Aubrey was between them.
She went to sit up, her jaw clenching as she winced
He didn't wake up, his brow furrowed as he slept.
She got herself up, sighing as she relaxed.
Aubrey opened her eyes, babbling slightly as she sat up.
Aubrey pulled her close, frowning slightly.
Aubrey babbled noisily, patting her face.
She held the baby close, kissing her cheek. "You'll be safe, Bre. I promise."
She cooed, tugging on Avice's hair.
She kissed her temple, her free hand rubbing Jack's back.
Jack murmured, his eyes fluttering open. "...Av?"
She nodded slowly. "I'm awake."
"You should... be lying down," he protested, sitting up.
She shook her head. "I wanted to hold Aubrey."
He sighed, sitting up. "Can you not hold her while lying down?"
She gave him a look. "Why can't I sit up?"
"Because you have stitches across your belly."
She sighed. "It only hurts a little."
"C'mon, Av. Lie back down, okay? Please? For me?"
