Jack returned that night with a small box.
Avice was asleep, Aubrey in her arms.
He sat next to her on the bed and rested a hand on her shoulder. “Av.”
Her eyes fluttered open, and she immediately looked excited. "You're back!"
“Yup,” he said quietly, setting the box on her lap.
She could barely contain her excitement, opening the box.
A small grey kitten stared up at her, resting languidly on his side with wide blue eyes.
She gasped, picking him up. "Oh.. my God."
The kitten mewed in surprise, his chest already purring.
She teared up. "B..babe.. He's so cute.."
He raised an eyebrow, tilting his head. "Are you crying?"
She looked up at him, holding the kitten to her chest. She was indeed. "He's so cute!"
He chuckled, kissing her forehead. "What are you going to name him?"
She held the cat lovingly. "I.. I don't know."
He picked up the sleeping Aubrey, resting her against his chest. "Breathe, Av."
She took a breath. "I'll name him.. Oliver."
"Oliver. He's sweet. Fell asleep in the rowboat on the way over."
"I love him!"
"He loves you. I can tell."
