Avice stood back and crossed her arms, a grin on her face. "Well, I'll be damned," she murmured quietly, gazing in triumph. "That's a lot of gold."
Jack stood next to her, shaking his head in disbelief. "None of us will have to pirate again," he said. "It's incredible."
She nodded slowly. "I don't even know what I'll do with my life." Her eyes widened. "Maybe I'll become a hermit and live with a bunch of cats and die alone with a large sum of money." She added breathlessly, mostly joking.
He pinched the bridge of his nose, shaking his head in mock disapproval. "Dear god," he said. "Please don't tell me that I have a huge crush on a cat person."
She covered her mouth. "Oh no.. I am a cat person. That must mean you like dogs? I'm sorry, I have to cut all ties with you completely. It's been fun."
"I suppose you're right," he said, shaking his head. "I can't believe I didn't realize sooner." *** "Easy there, Casanova," Ellia said, noticing his staring. "We're not getting anywhere near that gold until we get out of here."
"Cats are soft and like to be pet and they don't have to be walked," she lifted a finger, "and they're independent and quiet."
"Dogs love you like a child would," he countered, walking over to her. "Dogs also like to be pet, and they are also soft. And besides, taking a dog for a stroll is one of the great joys in life."
"Well it's a good thing I don't like children." She stuck out her tongue, turning the other way to dramatically shun him. "Plus cats have neat retractable claws."
"Dogs will approach you as you enter a room," he said, coming around her to look her in the face. "Cats stick up their noses and sneer."
"They only want to rid you of mice! Besides, when they're sleeping they're so peaceful and loveable. They're like that when they're awake too, sometimes."
"Sometimes," he said, raising an eyebrow. "But dogs are like that all the time." (I'm actually genuinely concerned here, Stuffy.)
(Why for?) Avice huffed. "There's no talking this through to you, huh? I guess you'll never truly how great cats are..." She turned away sadly, obviously joking.
