She nodded slowly, looking over at Monty. "Could you contact the police?" Monty nodded and stepped aside to make the call. She frowned, taking a deep breath before pressing the intercom button. * * * Feedback squealed before Theresa's voice came across all the speakers in the school. "Attention. This is not a drill. There has been a murder on our campus. Stay safe. Authorities are on their way."
Theo went and sat to the side of the room, her expression unreadable. Maverick was looking around the room, his brows furrowed. *** Everyone went silent, their expressions a mixture of negative emotions.
Monty returned a few moments later, looking concerned. "They're on their way." * * * Fina looked shocked and scared, looking out the window nervously. Sylas spoke after a moment. "Shouldn't we follow lock-down procedure?"
Maverick looked over. "Good.. I hope they don't take too long." *** Lilith, being in the nearest seat to the door, got up and locked it. "I don't really want to take any chances with this.."
"We can just sit and wait," Theresa said, frowning and looking away. * * * Mags stood up. "This is... insane. Everyone get to the back corner of the room."
He sighed, sitting down cross-legged. "Alright.." *** Lilith frowned, doing so hesitantly. Cassian did as well, his arms folded.
Theresa pulled down the blinds, locking the door and looking around suspiciously. "How did they all go unconscious?" she mused. "Did they hit their heads?" * * * Fina joined the group, looking extremely nervous, her breaths coming in the small breaths. Sylas noticed, but for once, didn't say anything, simply joining the group in the back of the room.
Maverick looked down at one of them, inspecting the body. "Hm.. I'm not sure.." *** Cassian was silent. His expression was strangely thoughtful, a hint of frustration would be noticeable if you looked closely. Lilith was fidgeting, her fingers running through a lock of her hair.
They didn't appear to have an injury from blunt force. Theresa frowned before sighing, sitting down slowly. * * * Fina cupped her hands over her mouth, closing her eyes to try and keep herself calm.
"Maybe it was a spell? Or potion?" *** Cassian looked down at her, his gaze critical. "Are you alright?"
“Perhaps,” she mused, looking at the people. “At the same time, though?” *** Her eyes flew open and she looked up at Cassian, as if she were unsure if he was talking to her. “M-me?”
He raised a finger. "Aha! Poisoned food! Just like those mysteries on television." Theo squinted. "Really?" *** He looked around, as if pointing out that nobody else replied to his question. "Yes."
“Not, not really,” Theresa replied flatly. “Who eats lunch at 9:00 in the morning? And if someone brought in bagels or donuts that had been poisoned, there are people in this office who would have refused. Look around, though. Everyone is passed out.” *** She blushed, still looking panicked, but now embarrassed on top of that. “Uh, I’m... I’m fine.”
Maverick shrugged. "Magic?" *** He watched her for a moment before minding his own business again, saying nothing more.
“That’s my leading thought process at the moment,” she agreed. *** She pulled her legs closer to her chest, closing her eyes again.
"I don't know," she admitted. "We just have to wait and find out, I suppose." * * * "So, um, what do you do?" Fina asked after a moment, clearly trying to distract herself.
Monty was sitting, leaning against a cupboard as he looked over at Theo. "You okay?" * * * She visibly deflated, looking worried that one of her rare attempts at communication had failed. "What... what magic do you do?"
She looked up at him, pursing her lips. "Oh, y'know. Just a little worried that I might die in high school." *** He gave a short nod. "Ah. Water and air. You're a witch, right?"
