He laughed slightly. "Yeah, Sparky. I have three younger sisters and three younger brothers." * * * She raised an eyebrow, not saying anything.
"Yeah, well," he said with a shrug. "You know. Foster families and all that." * * * "You're the one who gave him a platform," she countered, glaring at him.
She nodded slowly, looking curious. "Huh." *** "People would listen to him anyways. They're under his spell."
"What about you? Any siblings?" * * * Theresa looked up at him. She didn't look angry, but she definitely looked disappointed. "You're trying to assuage your guilt, but the fact remains that Sylas has been saying this kind of stuff for years without this happening. The bottom line is that you gave him a platform. Where he once could only talk about it to anyone who would listen, now the entire school has had their faces shoved in it. Sylas has now been given even more power, my reputation has been stomped in the dirt, and a girl is dead. I really hope your little piece of gossip was worth it."
She shook her head slightly. "No, just me." *** He stared at her, a bit stricken, before turning away, folding his arms. "Say whatever you want. You foresaw what would happen and you failed to save her, too."
"Huh. Okay, then," he said, pulling off the school uniform vest and folding it over his arm. "Can I walk you to your car?" * * * She stared at him for a moment. "I'm sorry; there are a lot of things... a lot of nuances I don't understand," she began, her voice considerably softer. "Valkyries are constantly bombarded with visions and it makes it hard to focus on external things, so please..." Her voice hardened. "Please explain to me how you can be this stupid. I warned people, dumbass. I told them to shut down the school and that a girl was going to be killed and they didn't believe me. They thought I was lying about my visions because of a certain newspaper article. You even made me doubt myself. Try again to make this my fault, you colossal sphincternose."
She seemed slightly surprised, then nodded. "If you'd like to." *** He squinted, listening to her before raising his hands. His voice was genuine. "I'm sorry. I'm just.. afraid to take responsibility of what happened because of what I wrote."
"Oh, so badly," he replied playfully to her, extending an arm to her. * * * She considered him with a frown, evidently not impressed by what she saw. "Well, you should be," she replied quietly. "You should be scared. But it's the least you could do." She slung her bag over her shoulder. "Go home, Maverick. I'll talk to the police for us."
“Which one’s yours?” he asked, looking across the parking lot. *** “Yeah,” she said with a small sigh. “I don’t imagine you’ll be much use to them anyway. Go home.”
She pointed across to a nice looking car. "That red one." *** He still seemed unsure. "If you say so.."
He looked impressed. “That one is yours? I thought it belonged to a teacher.” *** She nodded, sighing before heading over to the officers.
She tilted her head slightly before holding her phone to him. "Put in your number and I'll text you."
