He nodded, draping an arm out the window. “The store.” * * * She laughed slightly, although not unkindly. More in disbelief than anything. "You don't know what you're looking for." * * * "It's better," she corrected. "Now it wants to obey you. You've made a friend of it. People are like that too." * * * He frowned, pulling away from her. "I don't need your sympathy," he replied, his expression hardening. "I'm fine. I'm great. I don't need your sympathy." He paused for a moment before sighing, and the screen fell once again, his face softening. "But I appreciate it."
She nodded, starting the car. "Top down?" *** "Yes, I do!" he said smoothly. "Clues!" *** "People will do whatever you want anyways," he explained, "only if you happen to have the right assets." *** She frowned slightly, confused by the mixed responses she was getting. She sat on one of the swings. "I don't think I'm better than anyone else, by the way."
He smirked, looking over at her. "It's your car." * * * "Give me an example of a clue that you'd be looking for." * * * She fell silent, looking at him in surprise. "That's... wow. That's really sad, Cassian." * * * He laughed slightly, crossing his arms and leaning back against the pole. "Maybe not. But you've never had to doubt whether you're good or bad purely because of how you were born. That gives you something."
She squinted at him playfully before putting the top down and slipping on her sunglasses, starting off to the store. *** He groaned. "I have seen so many murder documentaries. Obviously you have to look for why the specific victim was chosen, and check around the premises for any discarded weapons or evidence! Look for shoe prints, check in garbage cans for bloody items..." *** He frowned, almost as if becoming defensive. "No, it's not." *** "Didn't you tell that angels were supposed to be holy? Besides, I don't believe anyone has to be anything just based on what you were born as." She seemed very adamant, her arms crossed stubbornly.
He tapped her head playfully before sticking his head out the window, his brow hair whipped back. * * * She squinted, folding her arms. "I'm not having a vision. You should know that. But this won't end well." * * * "No, it is," she replied, looking concerned. "Why would you try to find leverage when you could literally just be nice to people?" * * * "Maybe not," he replied smoothly. "But when someone looks at you and then someone looks at me, they make judgments immediately. Immediately, Lilith."
She grinned at him momentarily before looking back at the road. *** "Well you don't actually know, then. Rude." *** He watched her seriously. "People will not respect you and will find opportunities to betray you." *** She observed him carefully, her head tilted slightly. "I believe you."
(Zoop?) * * * "You do not tend to make wise decisions, Maverick." * * * She took a moment to respond, considering him thoughtfully. "Do you think I'd betray you?" * * * He sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. "This area isn't safe after dark. Are you able to go home?"
(Yoop!) *** "Yeah. Whatever you say. You're the one following me." *** He was watching her intensely. "I don't know you." *** She hesitated, stopping the swing. "I mean.. yeah."
He spread out the blanket, setting some foodstuff down in the grass. * * * She glowered before pointing out to the field. "I was here first." * * * She laughed slightly, her lips curving up naturally into a smile. "That doesn't answer the question." * * * He frowned, eyeing her. "Do you want to go home?"
She set down the rest before sitting, leaning back on her hands. *** He squinted. "You don't know how long I was here." *** "Yes it does," he said matter-of-factly. "That means I don't trust you." *** She didn't meet his gaze, her expression looking rather sad. "No, but that's okay."
He laid down on his back, looking up at the clouds. "This was a good idea, yeah?" * * * "Of course I know. I know everything. Besides, you don't know how long I was here either." * * * She frowned, tilting her head curiously. "What did I do to cause your distrust?" * * * He looked over his shoulder, almost nervous before sighing, offering a hand to her to get her off the swing. "Come on. You can stay at my house tonight."
She looked down at him with a smile. "Yeah. It's nice." *** He pursed his lips before sticking his tongue out at her. *** "You didn't do anything. I just don't trust anyone I don't know." *** She took it, looking surprised as she got off. "Really? That's alright with you?"
He beamed at her, closing his eyes as he stretched out in the sun. * * * She frowned, jerking her head back. "Are you trying to lick me? Shapeshifters do not eat Valkyries." * * * "Hm. How could I get you to trust me, then?" she asked, tilting her head. * * * "It's not me you have to worry about," he said flatly. "It's my father. We'll just have to hide you."
She observed him thoughtfully, her head tilting before she laid back as well, watching the clouds. *** "I'm teasing you." *** He looked confused. "Why do you want that?" *** She seemed uncertain, but was afraid to annoy him. "I don't want to get you into trouble."
He opened his eyes, looking over at her thoughtfully. "Aren't you going to eat?" * * * "Teasing..." she mused, holding the word in her mouth. "Why? Teasing implied affection.” * * * “I like to have good relationships with people,” she said with a small shrug. “Besides, I want to write it down.” *** “I’ll only get in trouble if we get caught,” he replied.
She returned the gaze. "Yeah, I will." *** "Because I feel like you're always mean to me but I can't really do anything else about it so I'll stick to teasing." *** He squinted. "Write it down..?" *** She nodded slowly. "Okay."
He smiled at her, closing his eyes again. “Great.” *** “I’m mean to you? You’re a literal bully. You use your gossip to hurt people.” *** She looked confused. “Yes. It’s what I do.” *** He gestured with his head. “This way.”
She continued watching the clouds, her expression thoughtful. *** He frowned. "I just write what happens." *** "I know," he said, "but I can tell you what you want to write down." *** She nodded, following him.
He sat up after about five minutes, pulling the loaf of bread out from its wrapping. "Sandwich time." * * * She looked curious, one brow raised. "Why do you lie?" * * * This seemed to confuse her. "What do you mean?" * * * (Zoop?)
She looked up at him. "Will you grab me some bread?" *** He frowned. "I don't lie." *** He now seemed equally confused. "What do you mean?" *** (Yoop!)
