She tilted her head thoughtfully. She seemed fascinated, studying him thoroughly. "Is this a manifestation of your guilt, Maverick?"
"Do you feel guilty? Is that why you quit the newspaper and have started this club?" she asked. "Because you feel that on some level, you were to blame?"
She blinked, looking genuinely confused, but she softened. "If you say so. Anyway, sure. I'll join your club."
Maverick, Theo, Cassian, and Lilith all went to the field. Maverick looked excited. Theo mostly went because Monty was going, and maybe she was a bit curious herself. Cassian.. seemed a little bored. His arms were folded as he waited for something to happen. Lilith seemed nearly as excited as Maverick, her expression warm as she stood nearby.
Theresa was already sitting on the field when they arrived, having changed out of her armor and into her after-school clothing. She was sitting in the grass and leaning back on her hands. Fina, forever punctual, was sitting next to her, jotting down some notes in the weathered pages of her field guide, her head tilted curiously. Monty was running late, jogging towards the field once everyone had arrived, a blue ribbon in his pocket. Sylas stood, his arms crossed and one brow raised. Theresa looked up with a frown. "Why are you here? Aren't you busy destroying lives?" "We're both trying to figure that out," he retorted. "I'd rather be anywhere but here."
Lilith raised her hands at them in a sort of surrender pose, looking between Theresa and Sylas. "Let's not argue or fight today! That would be bad." Maverick had waited for Monty, trying to figure out how to word what he was going to say. Cassian went to Fina. "What are you writing?"
