She nodded slowly. "You too," she said quietly. Sharp, blade-like wings formed on her back, seeming as if the light bent and gathered against her back to reveal itself. She stretched them, looking over her shoulder as she flapped them experimentally before taking off into the sky.
Monty shifted for the third time in as many minutes and squinted at the alarm clock on his bedside table. The neon blue lights read 2:46. He sighed, sitting up and running his hand through his hair.
He squinted at the window, hesitating as his gaze flickered to his silent phone on the bedside table. He pursed his lips but shook his head slowly. She didn’t want to talk to him. She had made that very clear.
Theo, however, was holding her phone, looking at the text on the screen. After a moment, she sent a message. "You awake?"
She would see the text bubbles that meant that he was typing for a few minutes. After a while, though, they disappeared before he tried again. “It’s fine, Theo. Don’t worry. I was acting weird.”
There was a couple minutes pause before he replied. “I’m not trying to manipulate you into something more. You’re my friend and I like spending time with you. That’s it. That’s all I see it as. I resent that you think that I’m the type of person who would lie about their intentions; I don’t think I deserve it. That being said, I made you uncomfortable, and I feel poorly about that. I promise that I will not pretend or try to kiss you ever again.”
She frowned slightly, reading his response over. "Thank you. I agree you didn't deserve it and I'm sorry too."
There was no response for a while, and she might think he was going back to sleep. Finally, her phone dinged with a response. “”
There was a silence on his end before he replied once more. "I gotta head to bed, Sparky. Thanks for texting me. I was having a difficult time sleeping."
