"I could have paid better attention," he told her, shaking his head. "I could have seen through the lines."
He exhaled slowly, shaking her head. "It's not your fault. I can't believe you came here tonight for me."
He exhaled slightly, slipping his arms around her and pulling her close, desperate for comfort. "You're mine too."
She held her arms around him, keeping quiet for a moment. "You don't deserve being treated badly like that.."
He laughed slightly, sounding more like a sob. "I do, Lil. People like me... we're not meant for happy endings."
He fell silent, his hand cupping the back of her head gently. "It's just," he began eventually, shaking his head. "That's just not how these things work. And if I keep thinking things will be different, I'll only end up hurting more."
He exhaled slightly, opening his eyes and looking down at her for a moment. "Will you stay here tonight? You don't have to if you don't want to."
He visibly relaxed, looking down at her. "Good. Thank you. I just... I really don't want to be alone right now."
