"Maybe," he said slowly, stretching out. He looked up at the ceiling, his frown prominent. "You'll stay?"
He looked down at her, his expression soft, before he rested his head on top of hers gently, closing his eyes. "Okay. Thanks, Lil."
Lilith shifted, perking up. She listened for a moment before quickly jumping out of the bed, slipping under it.
The door swung open and Sylas sat up suddenly, blinking in surprise. "Sugar," began a syrupy-sweet voice with a vague Southern accent. Lilith would be able to see black heels in the doorway. "I'm not sure where the cake mix ran off to. It's Elsie's day off... do you know where she puts it?" Sylas frowned and Lilith would see his feet touch the ground as he got out of bed. "Mom, what are you doing up so early?" she would hear him say gently. "You shouldn't be out of bed..." The door closed behind them.
He returned about 15 minutes later, running his fingers through his hair as he opened the door. He blinked as his gaze fell upon her and he paused before giving her a small smile. "Hey. You're still here."
