"Oh, boohoo. You tried to ruin my entire reputation. Let me have this." * * * "I'm aware. You have a halo." * * * She began leafing through the field guide before closing it with a small sigh. * * * He looked taken aback. "Do you want to?"
"I never tried to!" *** "Master of disguise." *** He looked down at her. "Is something wrong?" *** She looked surprise. "Of course."
Theresa opened her mouth to reply before two individuals approached them on the field. She fell silent, frowning.
One of them, a shapeshifter like Maverick, frowned, tugging on her honey-blonde hair. “Are we meeting you here?”
He folded his hands. Theresa would be able to tell he was hiding his immense excitement. "The murder weapon was found in your locker."
"That's right," he said, letting a small smile slip before facing the boy. "And you caused the power outage."
The boy's brow furrowed and he looked over at the girl in confusion. The girl bristled, raising one eyebrow. "You think I killed her? Are you serious? I was out of town. I came back and she was dead."
She looked absolutely bewildered. "I don't even know! I emptied out my locker before I left because I was going to take a month to study charms in the Peridettes." Fina's head jolted up and she frowned. "That's right! You were struggling on these last exams, right?" The girl glared at Fina and she quieted, ducking her head.
"No one," she said, sounding like she was almost in tears. "Emily was a good friend of mine. I would never try to kill her."
Theresa met his gaze before turning to the boy. "What about you? A storm is what caused the power to go out. You're the only kid around who would have those kinds of abilities." The boy frowned, saying nothing.
He hesitated before speaking quickly. "Okay, yeah. I did do the storm that caused the power to go out. But I didn't know a kid would be killed!"
