"Maybe it's cause you're weird too," he teased gently. *** She paused, maybe looking embarrassed. "I have feelings for you. I'm sorry." *** "And I thought you were against generalizing," she said stubbornly.
"Hey," she protested, "no teasing the girl fresh from the coma." * * * He landed lightly on the ground and set her down, his brow furrowed. He looked at her in disbelief before gently cupping her jaw in his hands. "Theo, I adore you." * * * "I am, but damn. You've hurt me more than I can bear."
He laughed. "You'll be fine." *** She looked confused. "But you said I wasn't your type." *** She laid across him. "I believe it'll be okay."
“You don’t know that.” *** He waved a hand dismissively, his wings fluttering in the breeze. “You seemed really uncomfortable whenever I suggested otherwise. I want you in any form, Theo. I’ll take what I can get.” *** His fingers ran through her hair gently. “And you say that angels don’t have faith.”
He shrugged. "I have an idea." *** She grinned slowly, her touch becoming warm. "Really?" *** "I have faith," she told him. "Faith in you."
"Ideas are often flawed," she retorted playfully, resting her head on her hand. * * * "Of course," he replied, his eyes reminiscent of fog over a dark forest as he considered her. "I think you're wonderful." * * * "Ew," he joked, looking down at her. "Don't say things like that; people will think that you have a crush on me."
"No, my ideas are never flawed since I'm always right." *** She leaned forward with a grin and kissed his cheek excitedly. It was noticeably warm. "That's perfect!" *** She rolled her eyes playfully. "Oh, like nothing else we do would signify a crush."
“Oh my god, I feel the comatose flaring up.” *** He flushed, looking over at her. “You think so?” *** “Nah. Don’t worry, I don’t think anyone has the wrong idea. An angel liking a demon? The earth would shake.”
"That's not how it works." *** "I really thought you didn't like me," she said thoughtfully, her expression relaxed. *** "Why is it so unbelievable?"
“Says the one who’s never been in a coma.” *** “I’m sorry to have deceived you. I just thought that you weren’t interested. I didn’t want to make you uncomfortable.” *** “Because it just doesn’t happen. Angels don’t fall in love with demons.”
He squinted. "And you don't remember." *** "I love having you around. Honestly, I was worried you would notice sooner." *** "Do demons fall in love with angels?" she asked curiously.
“I still have more experience than you do.” *** “I just figured it was my charm.” *** He gave her a small smile. “Demons don’t have hearts. You know that.”
"The same way a test subject knows about the experiment." *** She laughed slightly. "You are quite charming." *** She sat up, looking down at him curiously. "I think they do."
“Oh? And what are you? The scientist?” *** “Obviously,” he said smugly. “It’s my best trait.” *** He looked up at her thoughtfully. “No. Don’t be fooled.”
"Why can't I be the scientist?" * * * "You just told me you liked me, fool. You can't bother me." * * * His face fell. Clearly, it was still a sore subject. "I have. And it didn't end well."
"Because you're the one in the hospital bed." *** "Was it a mistake?" she asked sarcastically. *** She noticed his expression and shifted, resting her head against his chest and listening to his heartbeat. "Demons have hearts too," she said. "They're just like any other. They need to be cared for and protected; not hurt."
She sighed dramatically, reaching over and tapping his nose. "Take pity." * * * "No, of course not." * * * His arms wrapped instinctively around her waist and he looked down at her with a frown. "My existence is to manipulate people, Lilith," he said quietly. "You of all people should understand that I'm not good. At least... not enough."
He blinked, but offered a tiny smile. "I'll consider it." *** "Uh huh. Anyways, shall we walk?" *** "I, of all people, have had the privilege of getting to know the real you," she said indignantly, though her demeanor was calm, "and I have learned through my ventures that you are wonderful and deserved better. Not good enough is just silly. I like you for you."
She gave him a small smile, looking back down at her hands. "My sister said you visited me while I was in the coma." * * * "Hm. Fine. Do you not want to fly?" * * * He watched her thoughtfully, his expression impossible to read. "God, Lil. You're somethin' else."
