They opened the office door, quietly streaming in. Fina looked pale and nervous, fidgeting with her sleeve. Monty was relaxed, looking around in interest. Sylas was standing close to Lilith protectively. Theresa had her sword at her side, looking around warily.
Cassian stood near Fina, looking around the room warily and keeping near Fina. Theo seemed tired, but interested to be there. Lilith was mostly curious, but stuck close to Sylas just in case. Maverick was at the front of the group, his eyes scanning ahead as he went to the computer.
Fina came up behind Maverick cautiously, her brows furrowed. “Here. I need to log in,” she said quietly, reaching out a hand. If anyone was watching, they would see that her fingers were shaking.
She looked up at him gratefully before looking back down, beginning to log into the program. The computer groaned as it booted up, the program blinking on the screen. Slowly, Fina clicked on Everett’s name. She scrolled to the bottom where one name had logged in the day before the murder. Magdalene Dower.
Monty looked aghast. “Mags? She wouldn’t do something like this...” “You are all quite persistent,” said a voice behind them in the door. Mags stood behind them, a sweet smile on her face.
Her gaze flickered to Cassian and she raised an eyebrow. “Oh, Cassian. Why couldn’t you have just minded the rules? Your betrayal hurt more than Fina’s. She was desperate to fit in, but you? I figured you had more backbone.” Fina’s eyes were wide as she stared at Mags, her hands shaking.
He watched her in annoyance. "I supposed we're both double-faced, then." Lilith looked upset. "Why did you do it?"
She raised an eyebrow, giving Lilith a small smile. “I won’t be monologuing for you all. No, I think it’s just fine for you all to go.” She pointed a finger and dark magic moved towards them.
As the darkness rained upon them, Monty’s hand found Theo’s, squeezing it as tightly as he could. Sylas took Lilith in his arms, pulling her to his chest and trying to cover her to keep her from making contact. Theresa brought out her blade and it began to glow brightly, making the darkness fade. Mags squinted and pushed harder the darkness falling down upon them.
Cassian went to Fina, stepping in front of her in a protective manner. Theo held Monty's hand, trying not to show her fear. Maverick looked panicked as he searched for a way to get them out of the situation, his eyes wide. Lilith was little surprised, but turned toward Sylas and shifted closer.
It would be dark for a long while, similar to a sort of unconsciousness. Eventually, each of them would wake, finding themselves alone in gloomy woods, dark and twisted trees towering over.
Fina blinked blearily, propping herself up on her hand, looking around with wide eyes. She lit a small light with her wand. * * * Monty's eyes fluttered open and he turned his head to the side, coughing slightly. * * * Sylas woke, looking around tiredly before his eyes widened and he shot up. "Lilith?!" * * * Theresa's eyes flew open and she sprung to her feet, her head darting around to look for threats.
Cassian propped himself up quickly, brushing away the dust as he coughed. "Hello?" *** Theo took a breath, her eyes widening as she sat up and looked around, panic setting in. *** Lilith coughed, wiping dirt of her face. She thought she heard a faint voice and seemed a bit frightened. "S-Sylas?" *** Maverick woke suddenly, scrambling to his feet as he peered around. He quickly changed forms, turning into a bird to find his group.
Fina stood up, brushing off her skirt and coughing, looking around before her head jerked towards a voice. "Cas!" she called out hoarsely, moving in the direction of the voice. * * * Monty flapped his wings nervously before calling out. "Theo?" * * * Sylas thought he might have heard something and began to walk towards it. "Lilith! Are you here?" * * * Theresa's eyes grew bright and she groaned, swaying on her feet. "No," she managed as she fell to her knees. "Not... now...." She fell silent as the visions took over, leaving her twitching against the ground.
Cassian paused, starting towards Fina's voice swiftly. "Fina? Is that you?" *** Theo blinked, looking up before running toward Monty, tears forming in her eyes as she panicked. *** She picked up her halo, moving towards his voice. "I'm here! Where are you?!" *** It would be a moment before the bird would pass over, before quickly transforming beside her back into a familiar face, who gently helped her up, brushing her hair back.
