He let go of her hands, pulling back from her. “Lilith, do you know how demonic blood reacts to angelic presence?” *** She looked over at him with a start. “What? No. Don’t worry.” *** “How many bedrooms are there?” Monty asked, following her. *** She followed, slipping her hands in her pockets.
She frowned, looking a bit concerned. "..No, what does it do?" *** He shook his head. "It's okay. I'd like to be better." *** "Hmm," she murmured easily. "At least three." *** They went outside into the woods and he looked around.
"It boils," he said with one raised eyebrow. "It's meant to be a defense mechanism, to tell us that there's something nearby that could purge us." He exhaled, shaking his head. "You think that what we are doesn't mean anything, but it does. It means everything." * * * She frowned, looking over at him. "Cass... I like you for you. Not for who you think you should be." * * * He nodded, looking around. "And maybe people could share the couches in the parlor. That'll be enough, right?" * * * Theresa's eyes began to glow white and she stopped in her tracks, her hands limp at her side.
She scooted away slightly, her brows furrowed. "Do.. Do I hurt you?" *** He flushed, looking over at her for a moment. He took her hand, kissing the back of it. *** She nodded thoughtfully. "Yeah, I think it'll all work out." *** He paused, observing her carefully.
"What? No," he said hastily, taking her hands. "No. If you did, demons and angels wouldn't be allowed to go to classes together. But it's there. And no matter what you think I am, it's always there." * * * Her flush was immediate and she looked at him curiously. "What was that?" * * * "Cool. Which bedroom are you going to take?" * * * Her left lower eyelid twitched before the light faded and she looked at him before pointing over his shoulder. "That way."
"It's there," she said worriedly. "But we can still be okay, Sylas.." *** He smirked slightly. "I kissed your hand." *** She shrugged. "I'm not sure.. I'll let the others pick first." *** He started, before pausing. "What kind of animal?"
He shook his head slowly. "Angels want to save anyone they can, Lilith. But you can't save me and I won't let you go down with me." * * * She cleared her throat embarrassedly. "That, uh... that was really cute." * * * "You're too kind. In that case, I choose all the bedrooms." * * * "Some kind of black cat, I think? Panther, maybe."
She looked sad, her brows furrowing. "Slyas.. I can protect myself if anything were to happen. Just.. please?" *** He blushed, pausing. "It was?" *** "I want whichever one you're in," she teased. *** He squinted at her. "Aren't there rabbits or deer? I don't like killing cats and dogs."
He shook his head slowly. "It isn't real, Lilith. Remember? This stuff you're feeling... it isn't real." * * * She nodded hastily. "Yeah. Super cute." * * * "I'm in all," he told her seriously. "I am eternal." * * * "No, no. You didn't kill a panther. You were a panther. You killed a rabbit first."
"It's real, Sylas," she said desperately. "Your powers don't work on me, remember?" *** His flush deepened and he rubbed the back of his neck. "Thanks.." *** She rolled her eyes before standing in front of a room. "How about this one?" *** He relaxed. "Oh, right." He transformed into a panther, stalking into the direction she pointed.
He fell silent, looking down at the floor and saying nothing. * * * She gave him a bashful grin. "We're both kinda bad at this." * * * "Sure," he said immediately. * * * She followed, her brow furrowed tiredly.
She reached up, her hand brushing his jaw. "I want you, Sylas. No matter what." *** He laughed slightly. "Yeah, a bit." *** She rolled her eyes, looking in the room. It was similar to the others, nicely furnished and decorated, but held age and dilapidation in some parts. The colors were gold and red in this room. *** He moved ahead, disappearing from her sight.
He looked up at her weakly, saying nothing as he considered her. * * * "That's okay. I'll let you lead the moments," she said teasingly. "So I know you're comfortable." * * * He peered in as well. "Five bucks says that it's haunted." * * * She waited, folding her arms.
She held his face in her hands, her eyes hopeful. "Trust me, Sy." *** "Oh. Hush. We can both lead the moments." *** She squinted at it before turning to him. "Deal." *** He returned a minute later, a rabbit in his mouth.
He watched her, saying nothing for a minute. "I've seen this stuff go wrong before, Lilith," he said weakly. * * * She raised an eyebrow, considering him for a moment. "Hm. Could I hug you? Would that be okay?" * * * He nodded, going ahead and jumping onto the bed. * * * Theresa raised an eyebrow before scratching his head. "Good boy."
"I don't want to force you to do anything," she said, pulling away with a frown and shrugging off his coat. "I get it." *** He squinted at her. "You don't have to ask." *** She grinned, following him in. "Wow." *** He leaned his head into her touch before pulling away and reverting back to normal, holding the rabbit.
His eyes dropped to the ground and he said nothing at first. "I'm sorry." * * * "Really?" she asked, turning to face him, one eyebrow raised. "At all?" * * * "What?" he asked indignantly. * * * "How was that?" Theresa asked tiredly.
She looked back at the fire, her gaze melancholy. "It's okay." *** He tilted his head slightly. "No?" *** She sat on the bed with a grin. "Nothing." *** "It was fine. Are you okay?"
He was silent for a minute. “Did you ever meet my mom, Lilith?” *** She considered him playfully before stepping forward and kissing him, her lips soft against his and her hand curling against his chest. *** He rolled next to her, burying his face in the blankets. *** “Me? Yeah, why wouldn’t I be?”
She looked over at him thoughtfully. "Not formally.. Why?" *** He flushed, kissing her back slowly. *** She turned on her side to look at him, her expression thoughtful. *** He shrugged. "You look tired."
