He relaxed, looking up at her. "Are you tired? Do you want to sleep?" * * * "You first," she said, hiding behind him. * * * Theresa stood up, watching the wolf warily. "C'mon, Mav," she said roughly. "Can you fly out of here? I'll follow you."
She shook her head. "I'm going to stay up." *** He smirked, getting the stick to open the attic. Dust drifted down as he did so. *** He looked up at her, his fur red and matted with blood in some areas. He switched into a bird and caught into the air, though struggled, his wings a bit damaged.
"Why? There's nothing going on here anyway." * * * Fina made a small whimper, frowning. "Definitely haunted." * * * She took to the sky after him, watching him to make sure that he didn't fall.
She shrugged. "I'd just like to." *** He looked back at her. "You okay?" *** Though he struggled, he managed to stay in the air.
He frowned before lying back, resting his head in her lap. "If you say so." * * * She nodded, giving him an embarrassed grin. "Yeah. Just nervous." * * * She followed him out.
She looked down at him affectionately, running her fingers through his hair. *** He squeezed her hand before starting up the ladder. *** They eventually made it back to the house, where his landing was more like a fall. He changed back after being stable on the ground, coughing on his hands and knees. He had all sorts of cuts and bruises.
He closed his eyes, leaning into her touch. *** She followed, looking around nervously. * * * She knelt down beside him, her hand on his back. "Shh, shh... take deep breaths," she said gently, a warmth emanating from her hands.
She continued to run her hand through his hair gently. *** It was dusty up there and quite a mess. Cassian frowned. "Hm.." *** He was taking slow breaths, trying to calm down. His brow was furrowed and he was trembling.
It didn't take long for him to doze off, his mouth slightly open. * * * "I guess we just... look around?" * * * Theresa frowned, looking uncomfortable before leaning forward and hugging him, slipping her arms around his waist and resting her chin on his shoulder quietly.
She split from him, looking as well. *** The increased surface area allowed for a more effective healing, and he would feel warmth spreading through him. “I am,” she said quietly. “Thank you for saving me.”
She frowned, blowing away the dust and opening the journal slowly. * * * She frowned, glancing at the cuts on her arms. "Not badly. Don't worry."
The writing was in neat cursive, starting in the year 1864. It mostly talked about town life and the beginning of the house, occasionally mentioning the dark woods that surrounded it. *** He looked at her arms gently. "We can see Lilith and she'll help you heal those quick."
She frowned, her bright eyes scanning the pages in the gloom as her practiced fingers slid over the corner of the book before turning the pages. * * * "I'm alright," she said quietly, meeting his gaze, her eyes as clear as ice. "Are you okay?"
The writer slowly grew paranoid over time, talking about the shadows that cursed the forest and haunting red eyes he would see in the night. It talked about the howls and how the land was cursed. The house seemed like a sanctuary, keeping the monsters at bay for a time. *** He nodded slowly, leaning back. "I'm better now. Thank you for healing me."
Fina's eyes widened and she spoke, her voice trembling. "Cass...?" * * * She nodded, standing up. "Yeah. Let's go back home, okay?"
"You... you should come read this," she said quietly, her eyes wide. * * * She began to hurry back, pulling her sleeves down as her wings gradually began to disappear.
He frowned, coming over and peering over her shoulder and reading curiously. *** He touched her hand lightly. "Are you sure you don't want to heal your arms?"
