"Oliver, and this is my Aron, I guess." Oliver repeated. "So, you guys are here for Pokedexes, too?" he asked.
"That's why everyone is here, monsieur!" Professor Sycamore walked out of a nearby door. "In Kalos, most children are gifted with pokedexes, but here in Hoenn, it's a bit of a rarer occurence, and at my behest, professeur Birch has agreed to start a group now... I feel in my heart, it is necessary!" Hallia stared at the professor, almost drooling. Absol picked her up with it's head and laid her on it's back. "Of course... I can only afford paying for so many of these devices... they aren't exactly cheap to import and build..." Birch walked out of the room behind Sycamore. "Hence why there's such a limited supply. Only 4 to give out to the hopeful youths of today."
"Four? Are we missing someone?" Oliver responded. "I could have sworn I saw someone following us, but I'm a wee bit crazy."
"There's actually quite a few more than four of you here, and there will be more to come. We have decided last minute that we'll give the pokedexes to the winners of a tournament!" Sycamore smiled and threw his hands out for exaggeration. "It'll be a double battle. You and one of the other competitors, versus two others. The last two teams will get the pokedexes. Seeing as most of you have Pokemon already, this shouldn't be a problem for you, should it?" Birch explained. Hallia jumped off of Absol and nodde her head. "Oh yea. I'm so going to win! Me and Absol can take on all you scrubs!"
"That's a load of crap! Me and Aron are gonna win!" Oliver cried in response. "Especially because of our secret move! It'll kick all of your butts, no matter what!"
Matthew had walked into town after hearing about the Pokedex. He strolled up to the crowed. "What's this about a tournament? Pfft... I can beat you all with my eyes closed and my hands tied behind my back" He scoffed before looking at the girl with the Absol. "I'll battle you first"
"I would love to take you on! ... But the professor said they're supposed to be double battles..." Hallia turned to Sycamore, who smiled at the small group of 16 kids. "Bien sûr! We shall put you into your teams! Everyone, please sign up on one of the consoles over there." Sycamore pointed to 5 machines against the far wall. "Me first!" Hallia shoved Oliver and Matthew to the side as she charged over to the machines.
Matthew looked at Hallia as he walked up to the console next to her and registered. "You're going down. Me and Seviper will crush you into little, tiny, pieces"
Oliver walked to a console, pushing over a kid as he signed up. "Nuh uh, I bred my Aron from my moms' Aggron and Swampert! He's gonna crush you!"
"You bred a... Swampert and an... Aggron??? That's terrifying..." Hallia walked back from her console. "I'm gonna... Go over there..." She ran over to a set of chairs and sat facing away from the consoles. (it's kinda... Psychopathic to train IV's and breed specific Pokemon in this game.)
"They're in the same egg group. And the Egg just appeared, just like every other." Oliver explained. "Man, why does everyone treat me like a freak...?" he mumbled, walking away from the panel.
Jennifer finished signing up and started talking to her, making sure to not make eye contact. It was hard as it would either mean starting a battle or staring at Hallia's chest nonchalantly. Though she decided to not risk having pippy faint before actually battling. "I have a good idea who I wish to team with. How about girls vs boys, show them that we are better trainers than them." She then smiled at Professor Sycamore. Whom she had met before back when Dad worked with him back in Kalos.
"Tre bien! Yes. That actually sounds like a good way to finish. We'll try to set up the teams as such." Sycamore smiled and approached the consoles alongside Birch, who quickly worked on the devices, before a tournament tree appeared on a screen on the back wall. The right side read, going down "Moose/Roy", "Matthew/Oliver", "Allen/Paris", and "Jake/Neko." The left side read, in the same set up, "Ban/Alicia", "Luca/Rose", "Valia/Nat", and "Hallia/Jennifer." "Heh, looks like we're a team." Hallia wrapped an arm around Jennifer's shoulder, and pulled her close. "We cannot lose!"
"Lets do this thing. Piplup you better get ready to start pounding and growling." Jennifer returned the gesture by putting her arm round Hallia. "You know, i've been thinking how come we only battle in when locking contact with strangers and rivals. Not well known people, friends or family."
"I dunno... but it's probably not in our best interest to think about it... It sounds like very hush-hush, top-secret knowledge..." Hallia shrugged and laughed. "I'm sure we won't have to worry about accidental battles anymore though, we're friends, right?" (I can't think of a reason. It's just how the game works. Best not to talk about it anymore, don't want the government coming and wiping your character's memory...)
"Teams... What a waste of time. My 'partner' would just slow me down." Matthew said before walking to the back of the room and releasing Seviper from it's ball. It's size definitely overshadowed Matthew as it 'stood' there, towering over him. He put his blue and white bag on the floor and took an X Attack and using it on Seviper. "We will wipe the floor with these people" He said quietly to Seviper. "Your strength cannot be overpowered. We're practically invincible"
(X Attacks are used mid-battle, bro.) Oliver sighed. "Right, Aron. Big battle, big battle, big battle. We can do it. We have to do it, and we'll win for sure!" he said to his Aron.
(Never really bothered with X anythings... All I know of them is that they raise stats. Never used them in battle) Matthew looked at all the other trainers who were distracted with their Pokemon. "We will win. I'ts obvious really. Professor Sycamore should just give me my Pokedex now" Seviper agreed with a single "Ssssseviper!"
Jennifer turned to discuss a plan of action. "okay, so you shall go first. other than that we'll just let our own feminine skills and knowledge to guide us to victory. Even if we don't win my father worked for Sycamore so I could get us two spare Pokedex's."
"Nice." Hallia giggled and smiled. "We couldn't possibly lose though. My mom was a master, and I learned from her." "Everyone, please come out back, we shall battle there!" Birch motioned out the back of the building, to a small battlefield. "We'll have Moose and Roy battle Oliver and Matthew first!" (You can pick the pokemon your opponents are using, whichever one of you says it first. Don't make them weak either, they should be the same level as yours... and yours should not know more than 2 moves, as it is the START of the game) (Battle rules: All pokemon are the same level and can know up to 4 moves. Turn based battle, speed is determined by pokemon species and how fast they'd move realistically (example, aron would be slower than piplup, who would be slower than absol, who would be slower than seviper) Status effects: Freeze/sleep: 2 of the affected's turns. Burn/poison: same effect as in game. Paralyze: every 3rd turn. Pokemon is put at bottom of speed list. Confusion: flip a coin at home, and please be honest, lasts 3 turns. Infatuation: Coin flip, please be honest. Flinch: Every odd number use of a flinch moves, makes a flinch happen. Critical hits: Moves with increased crit chance always will. No other move will. I think that's everything...)
