I find that anything worn on the lower of half of their bodies I find unappealing, which is why I prefer things like scarves or hoodies to look more stylish. And while some dresses look good, they don't always get it right.

And we can't forget about the Mare Do Well outfit. That was awesome.

My favorite thing to see ponies in are hair accesories. They're extra cute when thier manes get specially styled for an event. ^u^

(Extra points for tail or ear accesories too!)

A stylized mane and or tail or both always does look good.

I'm 'meh' at the whole thing
I think that the show is at it's best when the ponies don't have ANYTHING on.

ponies can wear anything. In my opinion however, i like hats, scarves, accessories in general.

but anything that looks like boots, pants, shorts... I think i don't particularly enjoy clothing that covers the legs or hooves. Fly/swimsuits aren't great either.
a vest, colar, or shirt looks awesome, but there again, it has to fit the character. i might stick up to Zoe and say that everything could look good; it just has to fit the character who wears it. And, not be useless; like flying goggles when not a pegasus, or swimsuits; ponies have a water-resistent fur anyways.

You've got to agree that some clothing is too much on the edge of Rule34, making it look pretty awkward/confusing on some ponies.
And that having pants must be hard for anypony.
There's also the idea of wearing boots: AJ's workboots are explainable, but they're simply ugly.
Rarity's boots are cool; but... Why would ponies wear boots when they have horseshoes?

If Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, the Pink Panther, Woody Woodpecker, Kermit the Frog, Chester Cheetah, The Cheshire Cat, The Cowardly Lion, Perry the Platypus or the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtlers don't need to wear clothes, then why should the Ponies?

This might be slightly off the 'feel' of this thread, but I have a theory of how clothing is treated in the world.
But first, I'm a sucker for AJ's hat, Octavia's Bowtie, and Fancy pants' tuxedo. Also, the gala dresses are awesome.

So we notice that in Ponyville, as well as the royal princesses, and generally most ponies in Equestria tend to be a tad nude. I think that in their society, it's like any nudist resort, except it's something no one ever thinks about. In their society, it's a non-issue. If you saw Watchmen, you might remember when Dr. Manhattan was in public, he wore clothing, but otherwise was nude.

Well Equestria is pretty much a utopia done right. There's of course problems, and usually in the form of worldwide terrorism, but they're a pretty laid back culture. Celestia wears crowns and jewelry, as does her sister and Twilight and Cadance. The only real clothing is worn as an embellishment rather than to protect line of sight .

I could go into more, but I don't want to sit here writing all night XD

I tend to think that their hooves evolved to be less hard, for dexterity reasons, thus horseshoes would be very uncomfortable.

I've read a few fanfics lately, and a few guys had gave me the idea that hooves are kind of soft and sticky-like, thus they wear horseshoes to walk around, but can hold things with the back of them. It makes enough sense to me, but still goes with what you said: horeshoes would be horribly painfull if they're not used to it.
