Here, I'll let Legion have the last word, seeing as we both are steadfast in our beliefs, and maybe this thing can get underway again, seeing as there will certainly be no progress made if this continues. >>; I also was introduced to the internet through a pretty heated forum, so this seems very mild in my eyes. I can get very carried away, and so I apologize for my passionate replies. v.v
I don't think that Religion should ever be abolished. The religious extremists (who cause war and all that jazz) should be treated like internet trolls. They ruin it for everyone else. You wouldn't abolish the internet because of trolls would you? The best you can do is avoid these people.
I'm equally as steadfast, if not more. My views are unwavering, set in concrete, tar, lead and many other things, deep under the Earth.
Seeing as I was raised a Christian, I can honestly say the same. It's a hard thing to break out of, but once you do, you realize that understanding was there all along. I'm more steadfast in atheism than I ever was in religion. I guess its just a personality thing. But my posts make it relatively clear that unless God comes down from heaven himself, I simply can't believe what I was raised believing anymore. It was sad at first, really. Felt a little betrayed, all those wasted prayers and love and such.
Do your own thing, don't force anyone to do your thing, and don't hurt anyone whilst doing your thing. Works for me!
seeing as I've chipped in my two cents, mainly about my own religion, I think I'll just stick out of this for now.
This is basically it. Religion is faith based. You can't prove each and every little thing in this universe. you also cannot prove The existence or God nor can you disprove him, because I mean seriously. Think about it, what you are asking Christians to do is prove the supernatural with facts from earth that are no where near that level. Basically it is impossible, and the whole point of faith is to prove that you are going to be loyal to your God even if you have not physically seen him in real life. Even though I personally believe that God is real, he is my saviour because if he were not real he would not have come down on earth to die for all of our sins. If we have faith we will be rewarded for it in the end. That's the point, God isn't going to just show himself to everyone. Because then how will we know who is following him because they are loyal and love him and who are following him without actually being loyal. Faith proves that you are willing to follow god, you believe in him and you will not back down no matter what, it is those people who have faith and act on it who will make it into heaven and live with God for eternity. As for people who claim the Bible is a bunch of lies, I don't see how they can miss the fact that things that were prophesied in it thousands of years ago and written down in it are coming true today. But I guess you have your opinion and I have mine.
I have no issue with religion. It's when religion crosses politics that I start to get angry. That, and Christians are not exempt from showing dislike to other religions. Atheists are pretty misunderstood as miserable, lousy people. But I do like to discuss religion. Just doesn't mean that if I don't agree with you that I hate your religion.
I think you're overshooting the age of the Bible by a few million years there, boyo. The bible, or more accurately, the texts that were later compiled into the bible, only started being written about 3500 years ago. Hell, history itself (defined as the beginning of civilizations that used writing for record keeping) only began about 8000 years ago.
I of course am not saying you were And I don't usually like getting into debates like this anyway, because I hate arguing, but I feel it my duty to at least get the message across, because God asked all Christians to 'make disciples'. And that is why some christians can come across aspushy, we are not doing it because we hate people and just want to shove our opinion down people's throats, but infact it is out if intense love that we do those things because we want everyone to share the wonderful home we will have with Jesus. Hence the fact that I and many others can get into heated debates. I'm not entirely sure what you mean by that. please elaborate? @ Yami Lol thanks for pointing that out XD. My mistake I was to busy trying to word my sentences so I could get my point across. Which still stands by the way
That's completely fine, but it's when certain Christians repeatedly try to get someone to conform to their beliefs after they've already expressed no interest is when people start getting angry. At least that's how I feel.
Well to me it means. All the more happy God will be if this person repents! As the Bible says in Luke chapter 15 Verse 7, There will be more rejoicing in heaven over a sinner who repents then 99 respectable people who need no repentance. Ofcourse there are ways where you can get your point across without offending anyone. And it is important to do that. Don't just go and say I'm right join me (obviously no one will say tha that is an example of the level of rashness) Rather go in slowly and explain to the person, while still showing respect for their opinion. My first argument for Atheists is "C'mon what is there to lose?" because if you think about it, Atheists believe we disappear after we die or something along those lines right? So why not give Christianity a try? because in the end if we are right. you'll have an eternal kingdom to live in and a loving father to live with. @ Testy, Well then I sincerely apologise my good fellow, we are simply showing our love for humanity *hugs* Forgive us?
No offense, but I find that approach very devious and underhanded, like manipulation. And I have plenty to lose, thanks, but I won't get into that because it will cause a big fight if I speak true my mind.
I'm just gonna wait and see how long it'll take this thread to get locked. You and I all know that it's gonna happen eventually.
Well ok then I won't state as to why I said that because is is already pretty clear And no it is not manipulation, If you are talking about worldly things that you will lose, then I'll say that those things will fade away in almost an instant, where as heaven will not @ Marston, I don't see why it will get locked, no one's getting hurt, we are just stating our opinions and debating in a civilised manner, and so long as it stays like that there's no reason why it should be.
Prove to me heaven is real or stop trying to convert me. You are essentially asking me to act as if I believe in something when in truth I find it preposterous so that you can feel satisfied, and such a thing is pointless in the end. Sorry, but that's only a part of how I feel about all this.
Well I explained that part earlier. I'm not actively trying to convert you either, I was stating my opinion to everyone. Not just you, And I truly am sorry because I know for a fact that you have made your choice. Please accept my most humble apologies If I hurt you in any way we are still friends and I'm not letting a small debate get in the way of that
