"Power isn't everything. Your casting technique could have been improved on. While powerful, those flames didn't stand up well against my spell, which, mind you, is not my expertise. Now, let's make a deal. You don't go burning down libraries, and I won't report you to the Guard.
"okay. I won't burn libraries" he said, then frowned at her. "my technique? was I supposed to try hard when I was burning a building out of boredom? besides... I'm not really sure how to improve my technique, although that certainly wasn't my best"
"self taught. a few tried to teach me, but they stopped once they realized that everything my magic touched either melted or burst into flame"
"Well, that could lead to a few bad habits. I could try and help you branch out, if you'd like. A few of my classmates at Iota had similar, well, very remotely similar problems that I helped them through."
"Excellent." Star levitates a notepad out of her bag and jots down an address. She tears out the page and directs it to Solon. "Meet me at this address 9:00 AM tomorrow."
Star walked back into the Library to check the damage. Fortunately none of the reading material was destroyed, just a few holes in the ceiling and scorch marks on the book cases, but nothing irreparable. All employees were excused for the day, and Star took her rare opportunity at a vacation and headed home, and decided to finish up a book on the magic of Cutie Marks, by the Princess of Friendship herself. During the reading, she was lulled into sleep from the day's exhaustion.
the next day Solon trotted to the meeting place, 7 orbs of fire circling his head, constantly changing color
When he arrived, there was a chalk sign hanging from the door, reading, "The door is unlocked, and I'm in the basement."
"Stairs to the basement are behind the first door on the left!" Star called out. As Solon approached them, the smell of cinnamon buns wafted from the basement. "I made a little breakfast if you're hungry!"
Star slid a plate of cinnamon buns and coffee across the table to Solon. "Sorry, I was too busy telling you off yesterday to formerly introduce myself. I am Star Storm, Royal Archivist at the Canterlot Library. You can shorten that to Star, though."
"And THAT is what I'm trying to fix. Don't worry about the damage. The basement is enchanted so harmful magic can't leave. Try and pick up the cup with your magic. Don't get discouraged if it doesn't work."
he shrugged. "okay" he said, wrapping the cup in a red glow. as he began lifting it turned white-hot and began melting
