Hmm. Not really sure if this qualifies as art per se, but I thought this would be the best place to share. If I this gets enough attention and people seem interested I might go ahead and make a specific thread. So! Propbuilding! Like I've said on my 'About Me', I've been experimenting for the past couple of years with building replica props, and I've had a blast. It began when I saw Volpins Fallout 3 Laser Rifle and decided to give my own a shot using more easily workable materials and simpler methods (Cardboard and scissors. I'm cheap.) I was hoping to take it to the MCM Expo, and had already knocked together a Vault Suit out of a blue boiler suit and some gold paint. Lots of cardboard, polystyrene and glue later, and I had this: It turned out a lot better than expected, and I managed to finish up the last lick of paint the night before the con. Everything was a great success, and I managed to get quite a few photos taken with fellow cosplayers. (None of which I ever saw again, despite giving out my email to everyone. I'm still mad about that.) That was a couple of years ago now, and it's actually starting to fall apart pretty badly. As you can see in the above picture, the polysteryene's sagging and the cardboard's starting to crumple. Also, duct tape isn't really made to hold something together that long. So. Another year, another Expo. I needed a new costume, I couldn't go as Vault Dweller or 'Generic Steampunk Dude' again, so I sat down and made myself these: Aww, yeah. This was a huge project, I ended up spending weeks of my summer cramped over my workbench covered in blisters from hot glue spills and plasters from all the Xacto accidents. It was so worth it. The photos really don't do the pair justice, they look so much meaner and more real up close. I had planned on making an entire ODST uniform and gear, but I only managed to finish half of the helmet before the con rolled around. Here it now, still not finished... Still, I bought myself an ODST shirt and got some fatigues from Primark, and had another great time at the Expo. I'd love to finish up the whole ODST kit and make a short film, but that would take way more time than I currently have. Thanks to school and exams, propmaking is on hold until the summer and I'm going for something much simpler this May at the Expo... Purple Shirted Eye Stabber, anyone? So yeah, props. Like I said, I'll probably make a thread specific to props where I can post some other stuff I've done, and if the demand is there I'll be happy to document the building process. Who knows, if enough people want them I might even throw some tutorials together.
Been chipping away at this since January ;_; Don't worry, hasn't taken me 2 solid months to make it ^^
[00:42:20] MigEater: everyone can art! [00:42:22] Xaniith: I can only solve, and program [00:42:22] MigEater: Just need practice [00:43:05] ThePoeticPony: I need equipment lol [00:43:06] Xaniith: I don't mind what I do, or else I wouldn't do it, but results aren't as great as those of artistic ability [00:43:18] ThePoeticPony: A stadeler pencil isn't the greatest of tools =P [00:43:26] MigEater: well I did that picture with my mouse [00:43:28] MigEater: so :/ [00:43:36] Xaniith: WHAT? [00:43:38] ThePoeticPony: really?! Seriously, you the next Leonardo Da Vinci or something Mig?! That's impressive as hay!
Damn these are amazing. It makes me wish I didn't suck at drawing. Oh well, I'll find my talent someday.
^ lol. Maybe one day I'll stop drawing ponies and move on to something else. (im lying, I never will) -- Sent from my Palm Pre using Forums
Then go to my art thread. I'm trying a slugbox style picture. It would help if people would give real feedback. Not just "looks good" that doesn't help. -- Sent from my Palm Pre using Forums
