I sense a conspiracy possibly being able to brew up out of this... GOD IS A BIG SCIENTIST, THE SUN IS THE MOON, SPACE IS FILLED WITH BUGS, AND THE GOVERNMENT IS HIDING IT ALL!!!
Religion? Let's see.... I don't think that most religions are correct in their assessment that the world is being driven, operated on, affected in any way, or watched by supernatural forces. True, but to slightly correct your math, (any number)/0 = (+/-) infinity. The reason for this is that the division of a number by zero is equivalent to the limit of infinity, which extends in both directions, not one (infinity in one direction, positive or negative, is still infinity, so this is only a technical difference).
Strictly speaking, this effect is only observed if we consider zero to be signless or to not have a definite sign. However, by convention, zero is taken to be non-negative, and this, we have positive infinity.
We are programmers. That was done in terns of the IEEE standard for floating point operations. Since computers store both a + and - 0, + and - infinity are very distinctive. Sent from my Transformer
Yes but infinity is also an impossibility, so therefore your arguement is invalid, as one cannot reach the end of that of which there is no end, so therefore infinity does not exist.
sure it does. You just can't get to it. And no matter what buzz Lightyear says you can't go beyond infinity.
That actually depends on which type of infinity you speak of. Some types of infinity are larger than others.
Actually false, floats are capable of storing special values: -0, +0, -Infinity, +Infinity and NaN. (Not a Number.) As per defined by the IEEE standard. Sent from my Transformer
In physics, infinity can not possibly exist, as it is the science of our world and understanding, so therefore infinity does not go beyond the mathematicians chalkboard.
In a way it does.Time goes on eternally. The universe goes on eternally and has an infinite amount of matter in it. (A personal theory) I thought this was a religious talk...not a science one.
Your argument is based on the presupposition that infinity is impossible. You would be correct if you said the limit of infinity is undefined, which must certainly be what you meant, but infinity does exist. It is not a number, but a concept. Interesting. Yes, they are very different things. Many modern mathematicians would argue that, while zero is not a negative, it is also not a positive either. Zero is frequently labelled with both a + and a - sign, making it both and neither.
Or most specifically, a limit to which values may approach But never theoretically reach. It is good to see people versed in higher mathematics. Sent from my Transformer
I will have to agree on this with Sparky, if y'all want a science debate, make one on another thread.
First thing you learn in Philosophy? Science technically constitutes as religion. Sent from my Transformer
