Pretty much why I believe in a higher being. Well, since I'm a deist, I don't believe any specific religion is correct. Rather, perhaps every religion has some truth in it? Regardless, I do believe in some sort of god. I follow the blind watchmaker analogy (Google it yourself if you're interested), but I believe in SOME form of higher power, be it a God, a councious, a civilization, or whatever. Two major beliefs I think are most like are this: The Universe itself is sentient, and is itself "God", or; God is inside of us all. Or maybe both. Who knows, the answer is we don't. Hence why I'm a deist; I believe there is a high probability of a higher power existing. A lot of people say that there is only Theism, Atheism, and Agnosticism, but really there's also Pantheism, Deism, Demi-ism, and many other -isms. Sent from my GT-P7510 using Tapatalk
I think you misunderstood my point. I'm not religious. I was trying to make a point about how for most things, using reasoning and logic is enough to convince us of a universal truth, but most people make exceptions for religious matters because there is a fear in being critical of religion so it is supposedly ethically comfortable or something to take the agnostic point of view. I'm an atheist.
I'm a complicated person. Unlike most Christians, I'm open to logic and reasoning. I believe that a book should not govern who you are, and that a certain truth is out there. But I do believe in the basic principles, and I AM a Christian. I'm slowly turning agnostic though.
I'm going to need hard proof that a god of anykind exists. I just don't see how it's possible. But recently, I had a though put in head, it has made me stop and think and think a lot. wheather this will change my religious views or not is still up in the air. It comes down to the whole 'everything happens for a reason' thing. -- Sent from my Palm Pre using Forums
okay I still don't believe god makes me or anyone do anything. God to me doesn't make stuff happen. If you want to tell me what you think go for it. Everyone is trying to find theirself, after having the back and forth with saikyo about things happening for a reason. Someone posted something in a thread, it planted a seed in my head. This one sentence has made me think about myself more then I ever have. Could it be by luck everything happened the way it did, like I believed or did some force make it happen. By force a mean anything. Universe/karma/god/gods. What ever. -- Sent from my Palm Pre using Forums
what I'm talking about is that, the way I see it things just happen. They happen by chance and probablity. There is no driving force what ever it would that makes it happen. But with me in the last 2 days. I have to question it. Could person X really just made a starment that made me have X thought. Which that thought made me stop and think about who I am. Could be by chance they lined up and it all just happened or was it supposed to happen at that time. I still don't believe there is any kind of god. I think karma is a bunch of crap. I don't think the universe is capable of making things happen. Which leaves me with 2 choices, chance and probabilty or something I'm unaware of. -- Sent from my Palm Pre using Forums
I guess. It really wasn't a thoughtful statement. At least it didn't seem to be, but a sentence about 10 words long as caused me to question myself. The more I think about it the more I feel It could be right, but then some things about it feel weird. I really wish I had the guts to just say it. -- Sent from my Palm Pre using Forums
Remember religion is faith. I hate when people say that, "If you question your beliefs, you never really believed at all." I'm nonreligious, but that's such a cruel statement that most who say it cannot comprehend its effects. Questioning beliefs is indeed a test of faith. I think it's healthy for us to question them from time to time, but that statement instills a lasting idea of doubt within the person. It makes you think that the more devout would withstand anything. I think everyone should be open to other beliefs, at least to hear them out and understand. I'm not saying you should convert, because that decision lies within your own heart. When I hear about someone's religion, I can usually say, "Yeah, I get the idea." I also don't feel that beliefs should be so incorrigible and absolute that they could blind you to an actual truth or fact.
If a God was to exist, He probably wouldn't help someone everytime they prayed or else everyone gets their way and everything's thrown out of balance. He has to help the whole of humanity as a whole. I personally haven't experienced God but I don't need this proof to except the possibility of God.
Im a catholic christian, I think the arguments for the existence of God are far more convincing than the arguments against his existence.
IMO, they pan each other out. Evidence points moreso to science, in all honesty. But I believe in God simply because I don't believe in coincidences.
I'm a Catholic Christian as well. I believe in God, but I don't believe that he controls everything. I think we are in charge of our own destinies and paths. I see God more as spiritual presence for guidance, but in the end it's your choice. I don't really believe in coincidences. Amazing miracles that happen to some people, it seems to good to be just a coincidence. As far as evolution vs creation goes, I combine them. I believe God created the Universe, but let science and evolution do the rest. I'm a science enthusiast, so naturally I lean toward the science aspect, but I base it on God being the spiritual force overwatching the natural evolution of life, and everything else. It wouldn't make much sense to me with God creating things out of thin air. Before the Universe was created, there was a single Hydrogen atom at one point, known as Singularity, with the Big Bang resulting from it. Of course that whole event is only a theory. But where did that single atom come from? God? Where did he come from? Nobody knows. Maybe that's the point of religion, not knowing, but just believing.
