It took him much longer to fall asleep, but eventually, exhaustion overtook him, and he drifted off, squeezing her hand.
Tez was still asleep the next morning. She had shifted closer to him in sleep, but not uncomfortably so.
He was still asleep as well. His hair was even more untidy, if that was possible, and his face rested on his arm, breathing smoothly.
He woke up slowly, his face buried in the pillow. It took him a moment to raise his head sleepily, squinting at her in the early morning light.
He shook his head quickly, reaching for her hand. “No, no. I’m just surprised. I thought you were a dream.”
He stiffened slightly, looking up at her anxiously before he relaxed ever so slightly. “Yes. I see that now.”
His thumb brushed his mouth and he paused before sitting up. His shirt was wrinkled and his hair was untidy, but his eyes were clear and focused. “I’m going to go shower.”
He glanced down at her with a small smile before leaving the room, grabbing some clothes out of his dresser as he left.
