He kissed the tip of her nose before his face fell slightly. "But... Well... I mean.. I'm not a siren."
"So it's..." His hands were shaking slightly as he reached up and took her hand off his jaw. "It's not right. I can't be yours."
She turned her hand around to hold his. "It's not against any rules. Unusual, is all. I mean, even Lark and Miko have each other, so why can't we?"
His brow was furrowed as he looked down at their hands. "You would never be able to love someone like me," he said quietly. "That's what they said."
She watched him worriedly before leaning forward to embrace him, her voice soft in his ear. "I do love you. I love you. It doesn't matter that you're not a siren. I love you."
He tensed slightly in surprise, his heart rate increasing. His hands rested on her back uncertainly and he hesitated before resting his head on her shoulder. "I love you too."
He leaned into her touch, eyeing her lovingly. He hesitated for a moment before looking down. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry I'm like this."
"Just... telling you what you can and cannot touch, relying on you to tell me that everything's okay... It's exhausting, I'm sure."
