Tez hummed lowly, her voice as smooth as the fog that would roll over the ocean in early mornings. It would be enchanting to some.
Rowan glanced up, hearing the tune and tilting his head to listen. A small frown crossed his face and his eyes flickered to the window where he met her gaze.
He frowned and spoke to Lark in a low voice before they entered the room. Lark had a bright, hopeful expression on her face, but the usual frown remained on Rowan’s.
“Better than okay,” Lark said cheerfully. “Rowan found an interesting sample today. We think that your plague, Mikö, is a sort of variant of ours, not quite the same. That explains why no elves have been infected. He found some algae in the lake today, though, and it matches your infection.”
Her eyes brightened. "So.. Now there's a better understanding?" She jumped and wrapped her arms around Rowan for a moment, pulling away just after and returning to Mikö's side, speaking rapidly in siren.
He seemed extremely uncomfortable, almost flinching from her sudden movement. His frown deepened and he folded his arms, listening to the conversation.
Lark waited until she was finished before speaking again. “We don’t have a cure yet,” she amended, “but there’s a lot more information now.”
Rowan started to leave, heading for the door. “There’s still a lot of work to be done,” Lark said gently. “There’s still a lot of tests. Will you be okay, Mikö?”
Rowan left the room, but Lark barely glanced over. "Excellent. I have to go look over the sample and run some experiments on that first, but I'll be back soon, alright?"
Tez nodded, turning back to Mikö. "Everything will be fine, okay? I need to head home for a little bit to eat something and clean up." Mikö cocked her head. "You'll be back after, right?" "Of course. I'll go fast."
Lark left the room and spoke to Rowan, packing up his supplies. She placed a hand on his arm for a moment and he frowned and pulled away, throwing his bag over his shoulder. He said something to her before departing, his blonde head bobbing above the crowd.
He walked quickly, she would soon find, but she would be able to catch up with him as he turned the corner, his head bowed and his brows furrowed in careful thought.
