He looked up at her, noticing her smile. Despite her familiarity, he would seem unfamiliar and distant.
She pulled a blanket out of the chest and draped it over the couch, gathering some pillows. "So, are you just, like, never going to smile again?" she asked after a moment, looking up at him.
She sighed, fluffing up the pillow and setting it on the couch before covering it with another blanket. "Well, let me know," she said, folding the sheet back. "I used to love your smile." She turned to him and gestured with her thumb. "Bathroom is down the hall, last door on the right. Do you need water or anything?"
"See you tomorrow," she said, looking over her shoulder to him. "We're going to classes tomorrow, so get lots of sleep."
She nodded slowly before leaving the room, her wings glimmering in the gloom of the hallway before she turned the corner and disappeared.

Sam had woken early the next morning, folding the blankets neatly and setting them on the couch. He went outside, sitting near the door as he looked around.
The door opened behind him and Eden came outside, her hair messy from sleep. She wore a long white shirt that looked suspiciously like something of Briar's, and she blinked tiredly, coming outside and sitting next to him. "Hey, Sam," she said warmly. "Are you going to have breakfast?"
