Ruh Roh (One on One)

“What would I do if I lost you, huh?” he asked gently. “If you got hurt because of me?”

 

He pulled her closer, his hands resting against her back.

“I know you just want to help,” he said quietly. “But I’ll be fine, okay? I promise.”

 

He frowned, rubbing her back.

“Was I that mad?”

 

He stiffened slightly, guilt seeping in like water.

“I did?”

 

“Well, to be fair,” he said, leaning against the wall, “it’s very dangerous to have you go do that.”

 

He blinked in surprise, his hands on her arms.

“Tez, it sounds like I was really harsh, and I’m sorry, but you don’t seem to understand what you were asking for.”

 

He laughed incredulously.

“Tez, are you honestly saying that if I didn’t make you promise, you wouldn’t go do it behind my back?”

 

“You did, because I forced you to.”

 

“Come on, Tez,” he said, annoyance creeping into his voice. “Stop that.”

 

“You’re being manipulative,” he said sharply, crossing his arms. “Stop it.”
