The class abruptly fell silent and Eden turned to them brightly, her wings fluttering. "Hey, guys," she said cheerfully, tucking her hair behind her ear.
She seemed to be keenly avoiding his gaze, but she cleared her throat. "Today, we're going to work on air abilities," she said primly. "Now, it's not nearly as flashy as fire or earth, or even water, but I find that it can be the most useful of all of them. Here, watch for a moment." She extended her hand and paused for a moment before an invisible breeze blew through her blonde hair. She squinted before thrusting her hand forward. There was a loud snap as papers began to fly around the classroom, people's folders and leaflets flying everywhere. She moved her hand as if conducting music, and the papers froze before beginning to sort themselves, dancing around the room.
They passed them all quickly before dispersing and returning to their original owners and Eden tilted her head thoughtfully. "Today, we're going to start with something a little simpler," she said cheerfully. "Our goal today is to be able to read the air currents. Turn to page 532, please."
The diagram displayed a pixie holding their hand out, their palm splayed, and what looked like a giant blue braid was running through their fingers.
"It's important," Eden said from the center of the room, "to think about the currents almost like threads. They are constantly running, but if you gain enough awareness of them, you can work with them like puppeteer strings."
He would feel a slight presence, as if someone dragged a feather lightly over his palm, but nothing else.
Eden helped a younger pixie who looked dismayed and she squinted for a moment before adjusting his fingers. The boy's eyes widened and he laughed out loud, his fingers moving tentatively. She allowed herself a smile before approaching Sam, her hands behind her back. "How's it going here?"
She pressed a pointer finger in the center of his palm, forcing his hand to relax, and it was suddenly as if the barrier broke. He would be able to feel the currents against his palm and he would be able to see that they were playful, curling around his fingers.
