They got back to the apartment and Rowan went into the bedroom, his eyes dull. He set her down gently on the bed, letting her go.
He flinched at her words, looking down at the floor. “I thought that maybe... maybe it was all too... you know. Too much to be true.”
"Yeah," he said, obviously trying to figure out what he was trying to say. "I mean, I haven't wanted to be near someone for almost 20 years, and now I meet you and I just fall for you so completely, and it... I don't know."
He returned a few minutes later with a small, covered wicker basket, sitting on the edge of the bed. "Okay. Let's put these on."
