She laughed, patting his face affectionately. The action seemed instinctual and she didn't even seem to notice that she had done it. "Neither do I! It's perfect!"
"We could do it!" she said excitedly, sitting forward and looking at him expectantly. "We could open a bakery, you and I."
She frowned, noticing his expression. Her wings fluttered before drooping, indicating her internal emotions. "Or, you know," she said self-consciously. "We don't have to."
She glared at him, looking annoyed. “I don’t exactly know what I did wrong,” she said suddenly, her voice holding a strange sharpness to it. “But I’d appreciate it if you could tell me.”
Whatever she had expected, it wasn’t this. She scoffed incredulously, stepping back from him. “First of all, that spell only invokes hypnosis,” she said sharply. “It creates no false feelings unless I hypnotize you to feel them. Secondly, as hard as it is to believe that you might possibly be creating a friendship with a pixie, that’s what was happening here. That’s it. I wasn’t tricking you. I wasn’t messing with your feelings. I wasn’t going to leave you lost in the woods, hopelessly devoted, while I fly off cackling. I’m sorry that you have to be paranoid about that.” She straightened out her wings indignantly, giving them a few flaps, looking as if she were about to fly away.
He looked hurt, but didn't meet her gaze. His voice was quiet. "You said that yourself, Eden. I wouldn't have believed it otherwise.." He hesitated. "You told me not to be fooled and that it was just your magic. That's what you said.."
“I was making a joke, Sam,” she replied impatiently, looking down at him with a raised brow. “Obviously I’m not trying to trick you into being friends with me.”
He thought about it, before nodding, standing up with his things. "Yeah. That would just be silly since humans are so bad. I'm just going to go back and study, okay? I think figured out enough about your magic for today."
