Ruh Roh (One on One)

Eden was fast asleep, in the same place she had been before.

 

She murmured in her sleep and a knock came at the door.

 

Eden’s arms wrapped around herself as he left and she frowned, turning her face into the pillow.

 

The person at the door knocked again.

 

Briar waited and relief sweeped over his face.

“Hey, Sam.”

 

“So, uh, I’ve been appointed by the Council to watch over you.”

 

“Yeah,” he said slowly for a moment before gesturing. “Can I come in?”

 

He entered hesitantly, folding his hands.

“Look, Sam, I know this is awkward because we were both with Eden, but can we agree that there’s no hard feelings either way?”

 

He sighed slightly, shaking his head.

“I don’t know. I guess until they feel they can trust you again.”

 

“I’m supposed to follow you around at all times except while you’re sleeping.”
