He would be able to sense her hesitance, pausing before taking the towel and gently starting to dry his hair.
This action seemed almost too much for him, and he pulled away instantly, turning back to face her suddenly, his eyes wide with dread as he regarded her. His pupils were dilated in fear, and he was backing away, instantly transported to another moment in time.
She blinked, sitting back with obvious surprise as her hands were still held up. She dropped the towel, stuttering for a moment. "I-I'm sorry.."
His eyes instantly darted to her hands as if searching for a weapon. There was a silence as he slowly returned to the current moment, blinking slightly. He refocused on her face and hesitated before slowly sitting back next to her, looking down at the ground, his brow furrowed.
She would see tears glittering at the corners of his eyes, not from fear or pain but from genuine sadness. He closed her eyes, taking a deep breath. "I'm so sorry. I'm sorry I can't fix this."
She was quiet for a moment, watching him with a still sort of gentleness. There would be sadness on her face as well, but she kept rather calm. "Rowan.. Be calm." She paused before speaking in her own tongue. "When one calls out, they should never be more afraid of the shout." A sigh escaped her. "It will be alright. I can see that you're getting better. You held my hand today."
He shook his head slowly, his brows furrowed, his eyes still not open. "I'm not... I'm not going fast enough."
He took a deep breath and looked over at her, his eyes desperate. "Tez, what if I can't ever figure this out? I can barely be in the same room with humans and it's been almost 20 years."
She turned to him, folding her legs. "I trust that you will. It might take a while, but you'll get there."
