"Nothing," she said innocently. "It's just... you were hugging me pretty tightly for someone that you just considered a 'friend'."
She listed on her fingers as she spoke. "Well, for one, you hugged me tightly. Two, you seemed very upset at the prospect that any feelings of affection you might have towards me wouldn't be real. Three, you've flushed every single time I've come even slightly close to you today."
"The truth will set you free," she teased, laughing slightly as she turned to move deeper into the forest.
She glanced back and noticed his expression, her face falling. "Oh, Sam. I was joking," she said uncertainly, returning to him. "I know you don't have a crush on me."
She inwardly chided herself and rubbed his arm reassuringly. "No, no! I'm sorry. I should have known better."
